The stock Air Induction System (AIS) introduces fresh air into the
hot exhaust stream at the exhaust ports which causes un-combusted gasses
to ignite creating a backfire (especially during deceleration). With
stock, highly baffled exhaust systems, it's difficult to hear. But when
installing aftermarket exhaust systems, this backfiring becomes very
loud and annoying.
Furthermore at thousands of RPMs, the AIS creates a virtual "torch"
at the exhaust port, resulting in extremely high temperatures which
can quickly cause bluing of Chrome and overheating of Ceramic Pipe coatings
(which can void warranties).
